The Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Cyprus is pleased to announce that over 50 tons of humanitarian aid, made possible through our efforts and those of our partners, arrived in Limassol, Cyprus, on January 26, destined for Gaza. These 50 tons add to the 20 tons of aid previously sent in November, further strengthening our commitment to providing relief to those in need.

This essential shipment—made possible by the generosity of the National Confederation of Misericordie d’Italia, which organized the collection in Italy with the significant contribution of Unicoop Firenze, the Francesca Rava Foundation, and other donors—departed from Monfalcone (Italy) with the support of the Ministry of Defense, the Italian Joint Operational Command Headquarters, and UNOPS, under the UN-2720 verification mechanism.

The operation is part of the Gaza Humanitarian Corridor, a multilateral initiative coordinated by Cyprus, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, the European Union, the United States, and UNOPS. This corridor, with a logistics hub in Limassol, was established to ensure the safe transit of humanitarian aid to Gaza through a regulated process: after undergoing verification in Cyprus under the UN-2720 mechanism, the supplies are loaded onto ships and transported by sea to Ashdod, Israel, from where they are safely delivered to Gaza by humanitarian organizations, including ANERA NGO.

“We are honored to have played a role in ensuring the safe arrival of these containers, filled with hope for the people of Gaza,” said His Excellency Domenico Giani, Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Cyprus and President of the National Confederation of Misericordie d’Italia. “This marks a significant milestone, reflecting the power of collective mobilization and effective collaboration among all parties involved. We remain committed to ensuring that, following the necessary inspections, the aid reaches those in desperate need as quickly as possible. Each day of delay prolongs suffering, and we must act with urgency.”

The humanitarian supplies will now undergo final inspections before being transferred via the Cyprus Maritime Corridor to Ashdod, and subsequently distributed in Gaza, providing essential relief to communities affected by the ongoing conflict.

The Embassy of the Order of Malta in Cyprus continues to maintain daily contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and all relevant entities, ensuring the necessary support for this humanitarian operation and working to guarantee that aid reaches its intended recipients as swiftly as possible.
